Well, the most popular online poker game today, the one played at most of the poker tournaments today, is what came to be known as the Texas Holdem poker game.

The Texas Holdem is a fats game of seven cards. The goal is to make the best hand out of 7 cards, while using the two cards you get faced down and five communal cards placed on the table's center facing up. But more of that later.

At each hand, one player gets the dealers button (a small button marked D). This is important because the two players sitting on the dealer's left are declaring their initial bets. The D button moves left after each game, so that everyone gets to be a dealer and everyone must declare his initial bet at some point of the game.

The initial bet

At the round's beginning, the player on the dealer's left puts a low initial bet, and the one left to him puts the high initial bet. The initial bet is there to motivate players to bet and get in. the initial bets size is determined by the whole table, with the low initial usually half the size of the minimal bet and the high one is the size of the minimal. Thus, if you are playing at a 4$/2$, the low initial will be 1$ and the high one 2$.

Once the initials are sent online, the cards are dealt clockwise from the dealer. Each player gets two cards facing down, which only he can see. Now its time to gamble.

First round bet- each player gambles with the hand he's got. The first to gamble is the one who sits third left from the dealer. Each player can either fold, rise or equal the initial bet. Bets are handed clockwise and if no one equals or rises, the one who put the high initial can demand to open the cards. The first round bets are the lowest ones. At your 4$/2$ rises will be of 2$ and three rounds are allowed.

At the end of the first round, it is time for the "flop". The flop are the three cards facing up at the middle of the table. The players can each combine a hand with these cards together with their own cards. Now a second round of bet will start, beginning with the player on the dealer's left begging (he must remain at this point of the game).

After this round, one more card is placed on the table faced up. Players will use this card to advance their combinations. Now we move to the high initial. In a 4$/2$ game, bets will be 4$ apart on this round.

Then another card will be opened on the table, thus allowing every player to see what is the highest hand he can make with all the 5 cards. And another round of bets, again on the high initial.

At this round's end, all players reveal their cards, and the one with the highest hand wins the lot!
